Halo: Reach campaign matchmaking on the way

Bungie will release a patch in October to include campaign matchmaking, as well as new Forge maps, new modes, and fixes for a few bugs.

Halo: Reach is kind of a hit. Sure, it made $200 million in its first day, but that doesn’t mean Bungie is resting on its laurels. Although the developer is heading off to continue its plans of world domination by taking their next project cross-platform, Bungie will continue to support the game via online patches that will add certain features. The first such patch is due in October.

Once the patch is downloaded, the most noticeable change will be campaign matchmaking online. Currently, you can play through the campaign with friends, but you must invite them to a party. Bungie has stated that the reason for this was simply to avoid players spoiling the story by jumping into a level they may not have completed yet. Once the patch is live, gamers will be able to join any public campaign match and play through the levels.

The update will also patch a few bugs, and introduce new modes. The Bungie did not state what the new modes would specifically be, but did say that a few we will eventually see are, “Stuff like Rocket Race, Firefight Versus, and more, are all in the plan and will be deployed sometime down the road.”

“The first matchmaking update for Reach will occur in early October and consist primarily of fixes for bugs and balance issues. We’re not done testing them all yet, but when they’re ready we’ll fill you in on all of the little details. We’ll also be adding some game types and Forge maps. Co-op campaign will be going live in October as well.”

“Campaign matchmaking will not take into account what your current progress is, so if you’re worried about spoilers make sure you finish campaign before jumping into this playlist!”

Bungie also released stats from the first week, confirming that people, do in fact, like Halo: Reach:
