Casio Exilim EX-H20G camera features hybrid GPS

By: Geoff Duncan  •September 20, 2010ShareTweetCasio's Exilim EX-h20G camera can geotag photos in places GPS's fail thanks to a combination of GPS and motion-sensing dead reckoning.

Geotagging photos might be a great way to remember and share where particular pictures have been taken, but it suffers from one big problem: GPS’s don’t work well everywhere, like in big urban canyons, and particularly inside buildings—you know, where lots of people hang out with friends and take pictures. Casio is looking to solve that problem in the Exilim EX-H20G camera, which features a hybrid GPS system that combines a GPS receiver with an internal motion sensor that keeps track of the cameras relative motion in between solid GPS fixes via a kind of dead reckoning. The result? The camera can accurately geotag photos in places normal GPS units fail.
